To help students get in 60 minutes of physical activity a day, fourth and fifth grade at Guion Creek Elementary participated in a Morning Mileage Club. Members meet twice a week and try to move as many times around the track as possible. For each day and mile they complete, they received plastic tokens to add to a necklace. Over six weeks, the club moved 808 total miles and averaged 1.5 miles per day/per student.
At Guion we love to move and stay active!
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Teachers and students of the morning Mileage Club indicate that they have recongized an increase in self-confidence and pride when being a member of the club. Classroom teachers also have even noticed an increase in concentration for morning work.
We at Guion enjoy educating the whole child and feel like the Mileage Club helps students both physically and academically.
