The 100 Mile Club was a true inspiration here at Sherwood Elementary! We had over 70 paid participants in the 100 Mile Club and we teamed it up with our Running Club! Our Running Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday after school and the students were rewarded on a daily basis for their accomplishments, whether it be for high mileage or just good old fashioned positive sportsmanship! Our students were out there twice a week with big smiles on their faces as they were exercising to take care of their bodies. The teachers also took it to another level. There were over 20 paid participants among the faculty at Sherwood Elementary. The teachers formed teams and were competing to rack up those miles! There were teachers running on their planning periods before and after school to accumulate miles!

What improvements have you seen at your school?

This year we had the highest mileage recorded at our school. With the help of Fuel Up to Play 60, we were able to buy "Stridetrack" licenses for our entire school. This made the students even more excited about running when they had a more concrete goal to go after. With all the incentives (intrinsic and extrinsic) available to them, they were more excited to go after their goals. This year the kids seemed more enthusiastic about physical activity than previous years.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We achieved our goals by having consistent follow through and reinforcement for the students. They were so proud of themselves every time they hit a new milestone or personal goal!
