Fuel Up to Play 60 is a program that was implemented in our district about 4 years ago. This year our campus has made it a priority to compete to the fullest, engaging ourselves in as much physical activity as possible. The students here at Cullen Middle School are ready and geared up to participate in everything worth moving for. They have agreed to participate in Marathon Kids and Walk Across Texas to stay active. Every week 122 ambassadors and I have committed to complete 1 mile per week at least. Marathon Kids has provided us with an awesome way to keep track of our miles. Their incentives have also been a key component for our students to strive towards personal goals. As of now, we are going on week 15 and have completed 1,845 miles together by passing our trip from Corpus Christi to El Paso. We are now working on going from El Paso to Wiergate with only a few miles to go before we choose another destination. The students here at Cullen Middle School understand and are excited every week to complete their mile in class. They see their times every week and strive to beat or meet their times each time. On top of running a mile each week they engage themselves in workouts and games throughout the week pushing them to stay active. As a campus we have successfully pledged to be active for at least 60 minutes a day and are keeping the bar raised high.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students' eagerness to stay active.

How did you accomplish your goals?

At first made it a priority for them to complete a mile a week for participation points. However, it slowly became a trend. Now the students ask when they run their timed mile.
