Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation, Student Leadership, Teamwork
Highlawn Elementary's Annual spring Healthfair was a huge success. We had over 30 vendors and more than 300 participants (including the students) for this great evening event. The highlight of the event was the successful dancing academic activity in the gym. One of our local community partners, St. Mary's Medical Center, donated their GoNoodle mascot for our staff to use for the evening. Students, parents and staff participated in the dance party that happened in the gym as the GoNoodle activity encouraged the students to live a healthy life while being active and learning academics.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The students and adults worked together to create a team atmosphere by the older students encouraging the younger students and their parents to get up and dance along with the mascot and teachers.
How did you accomplish your goals?
The goals were accomplished because the gym was full of activities and movement throughout the evening and everyone wanted to know when the mascot would visit again!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
This activity will become a part of our Back to School Bash and other activities that will encourage the students to get up and move.
