Student Leadership

At Gibbs Elementary we are implementing the Fuel Up to Play 60 program this year. Our staff has chosen a leadership team and we are ready to get things going!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our staff was able to choose nine students for a core leadership team. Once the team was in place, we contacted the students and began to have meetings to discuss what we wanted to improve at our school related to diet and exercise.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We took the school survey and looked at the results - one thing we noticed right away was the amount of time we have for activity in our school day. This led us to choose In-Class Physical Activity Breaks as our Play to increase how active we are at school.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

As we learn more as a team and can help educate other students and staff, we are excited that this program will last for several years. We are hoping that after implementing the program this year, we can start on day one next year!
