Girls Run the World - Girls Running Club

An idea was brought forth for a girls running club, and there was a lot of interest. So, after holding our first session with 25 girls in attendance, I knew that we could really make something of our club. The girls in the club are energetic, motivated, and they are excellent teammates to one another! These girls are constantly motivating and encouraging each other. They were also gaining leadership opportunities by leading stretches, runs, and workouts. After we had an excellent first couple of meetings after school, a colleague had shared a grant offer for Marathon Kids, a Nike-sponsored running club. I applied for it and ended up receiving the funds to run the program. The girls in our club run every day at recess or at home and are tracking their miles. These athletes will have run a total of three marathons, collectively, at the end of three months. These girls are getting a life-changing experience - and having fun at the same time!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

These girls are going to get a first-hand experience of the benefits of exercising regularly and eating healthy. This experience should give them the knowledge and the motivation to continue making good choices throughout the rest of their lives!
