Girls Run the World at Wellington
Wellington Elementary offers an after school club for third, fourth and fifth grader called, “Girls Run the World.” This is a running club for young, female students designed to foster girl's mental and physical health. We work to develop their self-esteem and character with small group talks and then jog around the neighborhood to increase cardiovascular endurance. We have 50 girls in our program this year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our school counselor, physical education teacher, multiple classroom teachers, and many of our student's parents help with Girl's Run the World. It takes many volunteers to ensure student safety as we run around the neighborhood surrounding our school.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Student's confidence and self- esteem improves through participation in "Girls Run the World." Each week we gradually increase milage and by the end of the season we participate in 5K run together as a team.
