We played a game in PE this year that involved Go, Slow and Whoa foods. First we have a lesson about all the different kinds of foods there are and we identified which ones were Go, Slow and Whoa. Then we played a game called, "Food Fat Attack." The taggers have to wear a vest that pictures a Whoa food. Everyone else wears a vest with elastic around the bottom. There are yellow "fat balls" all over the gym. When a student is tagged by a "Whoa" food tagger, they get a yellow ball and put it in their vest. In order to get rid of the fat, they must go to the side and do exercises. Then their vest can be emptied of all the fat. If only it were that easy!! The kids loved this game and it really cemented the learning about Go, Slow and Whoa foods.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
I will play this game each year to further cement the nutrition aspects of the game.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
I've noticed the students talking more about reading labels and really thinking about what they are eating.
