Goal Setting in P.E.

We participate in the Jingle Bell Jog every year at our school. This year we wrote down our goals for that day and ways that we would prepare to reach our goals. These goals were posted around the gym as reminders as we prepared. The students knew that to reach their goals they would have to work hard and be consistent in their jogging and maybe even work at it after school. Several students were celebrating after the jog when they reached their goal.

How did you accomplish your goals?

I talked to my students about goal setting and how you know if it is a realistic goal. We learned how to be specific and that not all of us have the same goal. We need to think about our abilities and how hard we want to work to get to the goal. It gave them an opportunity to not compare themselves to others but to just do their best. Having the reminders up in the gym also helped.
