Melody paired up with GoNoodle to compete for most active classroom. Students and teachers were encouraged to take physical activity breaks during class to promote health and focus among the students during instruction. Classes were monitored on how often they accessed videos from the GoNoodle website.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Students and teachers worked together to develop most effective times of the class period to perform the physical activity breaks. Some teachers allowed students to pick which video or videos they would perform for the day and week. Students would encourage each other to participate during the physical activity session and even teachers took part in the workout with the students. It was a great team effort to achieve our school-wide goals!
How did you accomplish your goals?
We worked hand in hand with GoNoodle to monitor which classrooms were most active with the physical activity. Teachers would reward students who would be fully involved with the physical activity. Once a week, we would announce over the intercom which classroom was in the lead and even do random shout outs to students or classrooms that were more active or increasing their physical activity.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Students have become more attentive in class during instruction. We have seen a decrease in students who are not involved in classroom discussion and an increase in overall student involvement. In some cases, students who were struggling academically began to see some growth in their Literacy and Math grades. The students and teachers began to develop a good rapport with each other.
