Our students can have breakfast until 10:30 am. Our Fuel Up to Play 60 refrigerator is in the serving line with yogurts/cheese sticks/milk/juice & fruit in there for students to come and get any time from 8:30-10:30. On the counter we keep cereals and breakfast bars. Our breakfast numbers went from 40 to over 100 students receiving a breakfast. Staff love the fact that breakfast is available for our students and they have no problem with them going back to the classroom and eating there.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We all knew many of our students were hungry in the mornings and just didn't have time at home for breakfast. I couldn't have my staff keep leaving the lunch prep area to milks/yogurts/cheese sticks for the students seeing every class has a different snack time. I applied for the fridge from Fuel Up to Play 60 and received it. This year our front line for breakfast looks awesome with the fridge at the beginning of the line.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We do not have the nurse bringing the students down to the kitchen saying they have a belly ache.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our biggest challenge was getting the word out the students that this was available until 10:30 and many teachers needed to see the set up to understand how this was going to work. Once we got the teachers on board the students followed.
