The Granville Middle School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America have completed an elementary student study on what vegetables, fruits, and herbs they want in their garden, ordered the seeds for the plants needed, and have planned the seed starting and plant of the garden at the Granville Elementary School.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The Granville Middle School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America made up a survey, contacted the teachers at GES, got activities and date ready for starting the seed and the planting in the elementary garden, and got community members to help with the GES garden activities.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We will cultivate the garden all summer w/ the elem school students, harvest the produce & send it home with the children, & next school year demonstrate recipes & have taste tastings of the garden produce for the elem & intermediate school students. We will donate the produce not used for tastings and demonstrations for the school district food service and Family & Consumer Sciences classes. Also excess produce this summer will be donated to the Salvation Army and Licking Co. Food Bank.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
This year we are working with the K-Club at Granville Elem School instead of the 2nd & 3rd graders. We only have 2 dates to work on the garden before the school year is out with the elem students.
