Community Involvement

The School District created a Physical education/Health Night for the families of our community. The purpose was for families to learn about healthy eating, physical fitness and activity. We invited local doctors, nurses, health providers and local sports organizations to the event. The event raised awareness of childhood obesity and gave information about Fuel Up to Play 60, as well as Active Schools programs.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We had students volunteer to help the adults run the activities. The adults showed people different games, obstacle courses, and ways to eat healthy.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our goal was to raise awareness of being healthier and we had more then 500 people participate. It was agroup activity that took all PE teachers, students and adult volunteers, including our currculum director.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

With the success of our night, we have no choice to keep educating the community. If we can have more community members attend next year, then we are educating more people who can use the help.
