Each day during National Breakfast Week, a different grade level got to take their breakfast outside for a morning picnic. After breakfast, we all took part in a stretching session before heading to the classroom to begin the day.
How did you accomplish your goals?
For that week, we had everyone eating breakfast when it was their day to eat outside. Students were excited for a change in scenery and to be able to eat with their peers from a different homeroom, especially our junior high students.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
One main challenge was designating who eats outside on which day of the week. Another challenge, was having to change locations because the grounds crew was cleaning up the field on one of the mornings.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our cafeteria staff placed breakfast into the plastic bins like they do every morning but instead of delivering the bins to each homeroom, they left the bins in the cafeteria for that grade level that was eating outside on that morning. Each grade level had designated helpers to carry the bins out to our soccer field where the morning picnic took place. Staff and students brought blankets to place on the ground, some even brought collapsible chairs to sit in.
