Access to Healthy Foods, Community Involvement, Student Leadership
Our FUTP 60 Student Ambassadors had a visit from the owners of Greyrock Farm, a local organic farm that Bolivar Road Elementary has been fortunate enough to partner with. FUTP 60 Ambassadors learned about crops grown locally and the importance of healthy eating through an interactive game. Then students learned how to make peanut butter squash cookies while engaging in conversations around healthy eating habits. The Ambassadors were also able to take the cookies and recipe home to share with their families.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
FUTP 60 Ambassadors worked with teachers, Program Advisors, and the owners of Greyrock Farm to learn about healthy eating and to make peanut butter squash cookies.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The FUTP 60 Team and Bolivar Road Elementary plan to use this play during the school year as we continue our partnership with the farm. Through this continued partnership, our hope is that we can get a healthy produce item to share school-wide as part of our healthy snack initiative. We are also looking to take each grade level to the farm on a field trip.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We did accomplish one of our goals, and that was to partner and utilize the local farm right here in our community, as well as educating our FUTP 60 Student Ambassadors about healthy eating.
