Growing a Garden

Our school started a garden at the end of the last school year, but due to timing the students were unable to see the food that the garden produced. When we came back for the new school year, we started a garden with fall vegetables. The students got to see the growth and taste the goodness that they had grown. They are now so excited to begin the garden for next spring!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students and I worked together to decide which vegetables to grow and then they helped plant them and harvest the plants.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The students are so excited about the upcoming spring season that they can't wait until we start to grow the seeds inside and then plant them outside in the garden. We have purchased two more garden boxes so that our students can grow even more food.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students are starting to see the benefits of growing their own food. They see the health benefits but also the cost benefits of this project.
