On October 12th, our school kicked off FUTP 60 with our Student Ambassadors holding an assembly that was attended by our local TV newsman from WFSB CT., David McKay.
We held a raffle during our assembly that was supported with FUTP 60 funds and from our insurance carrier, Connecticare. We sang a song and then took a lap around our track to kick off our first "All in, All Abilities" Play with a sMILEs walking program.
For every 10 laps students, get a charm to add to their key chain and a raffle ticket. For every 20 laps, we have prizes such as a gift card for Michael's. We will hold a raffle after 6 weeks.
It was a fun successful event!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Our Student Ambassadors collected the raffle tickets from students as they entered the assembly room. They also led the students outside for the first lap on the track. Our Ambassadors and FUTP 60 team coordinated the event and also the sMILEs walking program.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
This play will continue with our Ambassadors organizing and carrying out recess games for students. They will also put out our banner on the bench for students to sit on IF they need a friend to play with.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Staff members feel good about making connections with students from grade levels that they do not work with and to continue their bonds after they have taught or will soon be teaching!
