At Drabek, students are learning about locally grown produce through our Harvest of the Month. They get to sample the produce raw, then they try our featured recipe, which showcases our produce. This last month, it was cauliflower. Students got to try it raw, then we did a roasted cauliflower recipe. The kids loved it. We served over 500 samples and at least 250 of the featured recipe.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
More kids and adults are eating fresh produce.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
Getting the kids to try something new. I tried it with them to show that I would eat it. I talked to them about the produce and explained how it tasted.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
I have recipes available for parents to take and I have hand-out on each item of our featured produce.
