Haunted Hustle

At the end of our Fall Marathon Kids Run Club, we had a Haunted Hustle. We invited the students and community to come and run/walk with their children instead of going trick or treating and getting all that unhealthy candy. Instead we offered healthy treat bags and glow necklaces, since the event started in the light and ended in the dark! It as a great event and healthy alternative to a traditional Trick or Treat event. Every student received a Healthy Treat bag at the end of the event.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The Haunted Hustle was a great collaboration between our students and young adult leaders at our HS. The Be The Change Group is a group of students who do different service projects throughout the community. These young adults helped our younger students pack over 300 healthy treat bags that we gave away that night. The older students also helped punch lap cards for our runners and hand out glow necklaces. It was a great collaboration between the students which was priceless.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We want to make this an annual event to celebrate the end of our fall and spring running clubs. This is great community event in which local businesses have come together to supply healthy treats for our students. This should be sustainable when we have the "buy in" from the community. Our sponsors were so supportive of this initiative. It was a great event and we received many great comments about how it was nice to have an event that families can participate in together in a healthy environment.
