Twice a year at Scott Elementary we have a Health and Wellness Fair, this is an opportunity for our students and families to come to our campus, after school hours and learn how to get fit, stay active and make healthy eating choices. We have over thirty different community partners that are represented on these nights. We have had a great turn out each time that we offer these nights and our community partners are always very eager to join us in our efforts to make Scott Elementary students and their families healthier.
How did you accomplish your goals?
This event cannot be organized with out the help of many people; our healthy lifestyles committee members, PTA, community partners and teachers all work together to accomplish fair.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Every month we pick five students from each grade level to be awarded a Healthy Lifestyle Award. These students are awarded for making good choices in the cafe' or for going above and beyond their physical fitness activities both during school and outside of school. These kids are awarded this honor at the weekly school assembly on Fridays. We feel that if we are rewarding students who are making healthy decisions that more students will follow.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Students are very excited to come to our Health and Wellness Fair as well as to be awarded a Healthy Lifestyle Award. Students have been so excited to show their healthy snacks to their teachers and to make sure that an adult on campus sees them making a healthy choice while in the cafe.
