Christopher Roberts, Pleasant Hill Elementary School
On Wednesday, October 5th, Pleasant Hill Elementary School students participated in the annual Iowa Healthiest State Walk. Over 900 walks took place across our great state on the 5th for at least 30 minutes of walking. The school took to the streets in the surrounding neighborhood in order to do their part to make Iowa one of the healthiest states in the nation. After the walk the school was treated to fresh fruit and water provided by the Pleasant Hill Hy-Vee. It was a great experience for the students who learned the importance of daily physical activity and good nutrition all while having fun with their classmates.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Through programs like Fuel Up to Play 60, Kid Striders, and physical education classes, we have seen an increased interest and understanding of physical activity and physical fitness. Students have become more actively engaged in their own health and fitness level. With the support of community organization like Hy-Vee, we have been able to incorporate healthy eating with daily physical activity to improve each students' overall health.
