At Bournedale Elementary School, we have created our first ever Healthy Action Team! We started with 8 students but now we have a total of 20 students and a group of very involved parents! Our Team has started the following activities this academic year: BES Walking Club, BOKS program (before school), Jump Rope for Hearts, School Store, and Pizza Chef Fridays (with student ambassadors). We also had community members involved in the Cape Cod Canal Walk and a local chef came and taught us how to make healthy vegetable sushi!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The parents who are part of the Healthy Action Team as well as our student ambassadors met with school staff members once a month and discussed the initiatives they wanted to bring to our school.

How did you accomplish your goals?

It was through the joint efforts that this was possible.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

There were close to 100 students who participated in the before-school activity (i.e., BOKS program)! This group also contributed to our growth in our Grab-and-Go breakfast program.
