Healthy Alternative and Mid-Morning Snack
Our student leaders wanted to give our students healthy options during lunch. Currently, they can purchased small Rice Krispie snacks. We used the healthy Chex Mix recipe and made Chex Mix for the entire student body as a healthy snack during lunch. The students also wanted to do a healthy snack during 4th period (this is the period where they start feeling hungry). We utilized funds raised during sporting event concessions and was able to provide sliced apples and go-gurt as a mid morning snack to all students and staff. The students really appreciated the snack. Staff members enjoyed it as well. We have done the snacks twice a month based on funds made from our concession stand.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We took a brief survey of students to determine what healthy snacks they ate at home. Many students did not eat healthy snacks on a regular basis. Therefore, we came up with the idea to do a healthy snack and show students how easy it was to make it and have it taste really good. On that day, students leaders mixed the ingredients and delivered them to their peers during lunch.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We decided since we do not have unlimited funds, we would only do the snacks twice a month. If towards the end of the year, we would do more if funds allowed. Next year, we plan to fund raise and ask for matching donatiosn looking to increase once a week or more.
