Healthy Concessions for Athletes and Fans
When we were trying to decide on our Play for this year, our kids unanimously voted to make our concession stand healthier for our athletes and fans. The kids thought it was weird that after working out and playing games representing Young Junior High, athletes walked around with sodas and unhealthy foods. Caleb K. and Rydlii R. shared with the group that chocolate milk is a great and effective post-workout drink, so the kids decided adding chocolate milk, yogurt, fruit, water and orange juice would be a positive step. The kids put together announcements and signs advertising the changes. The results have been fantastic, with more athletes and fans choosing healthier options. Eagles Fuel Up!!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We will continue to make announcements to highlight the healthy choices we've added to concessions, as well as adding more choices.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Once the kids made the decision to make the changes, Caleb and Rydlii spoke with the YJH Booster Club who runs our concessions about their idea and reasoning. They Boosters agreed on the idea as a trial run. The kids made signs and announcements. After the initial positive response, the Boosters agreed to continue the initiative.
