We began our daily recess for all students in grades K-5 during the first few weeks of school. The Fuel Up to Play 60 team decided they wanted to supply each grade level with equipment the students could use to be more active during that recess time, but still remain safe. They decided to get hula hoops, jump ropes (both individual and double dutch style), and kick balls for each grade level to start the year. The students helped pick out what they wanted, organized it by color for each grade level, then put everything together. We delivered the equipment to the grade level chair. The students, both Fuel Up leaders, and the grade levels receiving the equipment were so excited to see the equipment. We helped organize the playground area into zones where the equipment could be used safely. Teachers are seeing more students engaged in the activities at recess and students are no longer just trying to play tag and other chase type games. The Fuel Up team hopes to add more activity choices as the year progresses, but we feel so far this has been a hugely successful team effort!
