Healthy Schools, Healthy Community
Our fitness center was relocated due to some reconfiguration of our school layout. They moved us into a garage area that was old, with a dirty concrete floor, and not the most enticing area to workout in. Thanks to the Waupun Area School District and our local Saputo Dairy Legacy Grant Program, we were able to generate enough funds to remodel this area into a clean, functional workout area in which we take a lot of pride. We celebrated our grand opening this past fall with an all-school Turkey Trot. All 650+ students and staff walked 2 miles and then participated in an all school flash mob done to the Moo Cow Song. We then enjoyed string cheese from our cheese factory as a healthy snack to conclude our celebratory grand opening event. When I look at before and after pictures, it warms my heart to see how this facility was converted into an amazing fitness center where staff, students, and community members are motivated to become healthier!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This fitness center will be able to be enjoyed by many generations of students and staff. It is amazing what can happen when a community comes together.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students and staff take a lot of pride in this facility by picking up, wiping down equipment or mopping or sweeping when needed, They make this a facility they can be proud of because they had a part in making it a reality.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students helped with the design and layout of the equipment, motivational quotes on the wall and planning of the celebration event.
