The Roth Fuel Up to Play 60 Team in cooperation with the Roth Food Service Department combine efforts to create a Healthy Snacks in our School Week. The cafeteria staff cut up the fruit and vegetables. The Fuel up to Play 60 adorn with rubber gloves- put the healthy snacks into sample size containers and served them to students in 6th,7th and 8th grade during lunch. The healthy treats were served Monday through Friday. On Monday the students loved the low fat yogurt topped with granola. On Tuesday were enjoying sliced apples. Wednesday was the day cucumber slices, celery and grape tomatoes with low fat ranch dressing. On Thursday, students munched on a healthy trail mix. Friday students were able to enjoy a cup of low fat vanilla ice cream. Students loved the free samples. Many said that they would now try some of the healthy choice options at home.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students worked with the school food service employees. In the past, food service workers dreaded days when they were asked to do extra with samples. This time they enjoyed it because it was not their responsibility to portion out the healthy snacks... instead the Fuel up to Play 60 team took on this role with a passion. The students at the school were served in a personable fashion and enjoyed the free choices of healthy food.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to work in cooperation with food services next year to continue this wonderful activity and make it a Roth tradition.
