Last year, we held our first Healthy Snack Recipe Challenge contest. The requirements were to make a healthy snack, using a dairy component. It had to be visually appealing and creative. We had a great turnout for our first year of doing this challenge. Our winner was posted in the Trailblazer (our school’s weekly communication), posters were made of our winner and posted around school and they were announced at our Good Morning assembly.
We will continue the recipe challenge this year with an emphasis on yogurt. The yogurt recipes will be entered in the FUTP 60 yogurt recipe challenge too.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Students created a recipe, with the help of their families, that incorporated a dairy element into a healthy snack.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The first challenge was how to kick it off and promote it effectively. We utilized all promotional aspects at our disposal: in-class promotion, flyers, emails, newsletters and repeated the message multiple times.
How did you accomplish your goals?
With consistent reminders and communication, we received 25 recipes from which to choose. This was larger than anticipated for the first time trying this challenge. We anticipate more entries this next year.
