Access to Healthy Foods

The goal for Lindblom Math and Science this year has been to snack healthy. Policies which were put in place by Chicago Public School have advocated our goal to encourage students to eat healthy. Consequently with incentives put into place for students who actively participate. Our Reimbursable Vending Machine has further help our school to be healthy eaters.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

During this school year it has been observed that more students are snacking healthier. They are making better choices when or if to snack during school hours. Students are eating more fruits and vegetables, which are often brought from home.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The academic community encompasses both adults and students who encourage healthy eating. If a student is observed eating an unhealthy snack, they are offered an alternative which is readily available. There are designated areas in the school were unhealthy snacks are collected.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We continue to utilize healthy eating play by encouraging students to snack healthy during summer break. Therefore they are prepared for upcoming school year. Poster boards will be visual throughout the school as reminders to snack healthy.
