Healthy Snacking

We encouraged our students to do a 21 day healthy snack challenge where they would change their snacking habits from eating sweet or fatty foods and change to eating fruits, vegetables, and dairy products other than ice cream. Students took it to heart and made their own healthy snacks and bragged about them at school. Then finally they brought their snacks to school to eat. It was a big hit with students sharing and comparing how healthy their snacks were.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students are opting for more fruits and vegetables during the school day. We are seeing less chips and ice cream purchased and more of our school salad bar being utilized.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We had 21 day counter and each day we encouraged students to shared what type of snack the planned to eat for the current day.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We kept each other accountable by asking what our healthy snack was for the day. Also we posted signage and sent out emails encouraging parents and students how they can come together on the weekends and make healthy snack in a fun and enjoyable manner.
