Healthy Snacks Fuel Our Bodies

Each day we have a Snack Talk and share our snacks and how they fuel our bodies and minds to learn and stay strong. We go around during snack time and each student shares their snack and what kind of choice they made and if it fuels their bodies. At the beginning of the year, the healthy choices are fewer but as the year goes along, each student starts to make a more conscience effort to select a snack that is healthy and also to try a new snack that another classmate has shared. Modeling healthy choices, talking about snack choices and also seeing other types of snacks makes students more aware of what they can choose and why it is a better choice.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We started this Snack Talk on the first day of school and each student and adult shares during this time. It is a great way to develop a classroom community around the snack table.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have seen more students making better snack choices and getting excited about trying something new and healthy.
