My school's student wellness leaders worked together for a great cause! They helped plan and organize a school wide healthy heart awareness spirit week. Each day during the week, the students/staff all wear the specific item of clothing. For example one day was "Give your heart a break, take a vacation," so students could wear vacation souvenir t-shirts, Hawaiian shirts, and sunglasses. Furthermore, they decided to do an after-school activity to play heartbeat ball (dodgeball) in order to raise awareness about heart health. All money/donations went to the American Heart Association. Through this event it is great to see a school community show their spirit in helping others and at the same time taking care of their heart health!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our challenge was getting the word out about the event and the wellness leaders decided to create posters and posted them around the whole school. They also visited each classroom to share facts about heart health and about the event being held at school.
