Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation
School Nurse, Angela Ridner, also hosts a running club after school. Children are able to utilize our concrete track that was built in 2012. Students run or walk as many laps as they can during this after school club. Every student that participates receives a toe token and are able to collect them on necklaces. Our club even participates in 5k’s in the area. The running club has been a great way to get the kids excited about being physically active. Fuel Up to Play 60 funds also helped to build this track that has become a wonderful asset to the school.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We recently hosted our first 5k here at Hickerson Elementary in order to raise funds to upgrade our outdoor basketball court. We plan on having this 5k annually and the funds can go toward keeping our running club functioning.
