Highland Park Elementary students in Girls on the Run recently ran in a metro-area 5K. The program is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum while integrating running. A total of 38 girls participated from HPE this year. The students trained throughout the fall and on November 19 they ran the 5K at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the KC Chiefs!! On November 14, the girls and their fellow classmates also completed a community service project.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This is an annual run so the lead teacher and PE coach will continue to work with anyone interested in training and taking part in the 5K. They train before and after school. They will also continue to complete a community service project every year in coordination with the 5K. This helps our community out also and gets community members involved.
