Recently our students at Maldonado Elementary School were able to attend a Tucson Roadrunners hockey game. The students loved it so much we decided to bring back a little of what we saw to the classroom (minus the ice, since we live in Tucson). With the help of funds from FUTP 60, we were able to purchase hockey equipment to use at recess.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We were able to accomplish the goal by first using FUTP 60 funding to purchase the equipment, setting up a field trip to watch a local team and bring it back to the classroom.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
An improvement that we have seen is that at recess, students have more options. Before students had limited options but with the introduction of this sport, students can now see the physical activity options available.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
This play will last throughout the year because it can be used on a regular basis as a structured recess option.
