On Friday, September 27th the Fuel Up to Play 60 team at Hollidaysburg Junior High School joined with student council to improve on the existing dances. Students organized and participated in corn hole tournaments, a limbo dance and a hula hoop competition as well as adding line dancing to the event. Students of all ability levels were welcomed at the dance and encouraged to participate in all aspects of the dance. The dance was very well attended and students enjoyed the addition of games to the event.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Students and teacher worked to determine an adequate set up for the event to ensure everyone would have access to the games and activities.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We accomplished our goals by having a variety of activities to encourage students to participate. The goal was met as more students attended the dance than ever before and students were more active during the dance (very few kids were sitting around).
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The equipment purchased for this dance can be used as rewards for students during the winter months. There has also been discussion of adding activities to pre-game and half time of the basketball games.
