We just received our Flag Football kit from Fuel Up to Play 60 and our students are having a great time using it at recess to play both football and tag. In fact, they have been playing team tag. They love them!

How did you accomplish your goals?

We received a FLAG Kit from Fuel up to Play 60 and the NFL and were excited to get started. Before the flags were given to the students our physical education teacher went over the rules of flag football and how to take care of the equipment. The flag belts, flags and footballs were then distributed among the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades to share.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

At first we needed to get the tag playing students to understand that they needed to take equal numbers of each color flag to that the football players would have even teams. Also, the tag players at first just wanted to say they were playing tag and walk around wearing their belts. This was not acceptable as it took belts away from students who wanted to play football.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students who had formerly been sitting around just visiting are now more engaged in games of tag. Students who were playing tag on our play structure (which was not allowed but always tried) now find that tag on the ground is fun. They are safer and having more fun.
