Horizons Health Fair and Wellness Skit
To celebrate February’s Heart Health Month, Horizons was excited to offer our students, staff and parents an opportunity to participate in several health-related presentations. We asked many community members to come and share their knowledge and experience. The information was conveyed in a variety of interactive presentations, such as demonstrations and physical workouts to name a few. Each classroom had the opportunity to select three of the following choices: Cardio boxing – Students will raise their heart rates while performing punches, blocks and kicking movements. Hannah Herzog Teens against Tobacco – Students will learn how smoking can affect your lungs and teeth. Dentist – Only Dr. Bret can make dental care fun and engaging for kids. Dr. Bret Claybaugh Relaxation – Students will learn how to take a break from life’s stresses. Brenda Johnston Football Training Camp– Students will actively perform fun and exciting football drills that will be sure to have them sweating. Mr. Walker Karate – Students will learn fitness, discipline and respect. Jeff and Deb McMullen Cardio Funk– Students will actively work on Cardio and muscular endurance as they work out in a fun and energetic environment. Amy Williamson Zumba –Students will learn to dance. Involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba's choreography incorporates hip-hop, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts. Jackie Brown Yoga - a system of physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote bodily or mental control and well-being. Annmarie German Dance – Discover some fun and new dance moves from a great dance instructor. Ms. Hemley Hygiene - Good hygiene habits start early. City of Appleton Health Department - Cover the basics. It's often helpful to start with simple facts about mental illnesses to dispel some of the common myths surrounding them.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our staff health committee along with our Fuel Up to Play 60 team committee worked together to organize and plan our Health Fair. The two committees also worked together to present a health and wellness skit. The committees wrote the play and the student committee made the costumes and all of the props for the play. The skit was presented to the school community.
