There have been so many incredible changes that have been made in the Wolverine Area Schools. Some major and successful changes have taken place in the cafeteria. The cafeteria has seen immense changes, including beautiful signage, a new salad bar that features food from a local farmer and a new milk dispenser.
Beautifully framed photographs of actual meals served in the W.A.S. are now displayed on the walls of the cafeteria. Students have made very positive remarks about how delicious the foods look in the photographs. From their feedback, it is certain that the photographs encourage them to fill their trays similarly.
The chef and her assistant in the W.A.S. report that the students are eating more fresh fruits and vegetables now that the cafeteria features a new salad bar. The salad bar offerings include fresh greens and other vegetables as often as possible.
In addition to more fresh fruits and vegetables being consumed, the cafeteria staff report that at one time they were wasting five gallons of milk that the students emptied into a container after lunch from the cardboard containers. The addition of a milk dispenser that offers low-fat white and chocolate milk in reusable glasses has seen this waste lessen to two gallons or less each day!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
The success of the three components and the resulting changes in the healthy food consumption of the students will undoubtedly be carried into the 2018-2019 school year and beyond! Money spent on all three of the components in the success story featured reusable equipment that will be used for many years to come.
