Indoor Recess for Extreme Temperatures
This is a demonstration of an Indoor Recess taking advantage of all the space in the gym with specific activities to encourage movement.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The principal, lunch duties, and P.E. specialist quickly worked together to lay out equipment in designated areas, lowered basketball hoops, lowered the mats to uncover the rock climbing wall and placed cones around bleachers for added safety.

How did you accomplish your goals?

As we worked together, we were able to create play areas with activities such as tossing through a target, hula hoop, scoops & bean bags, rock climbing wall, ankle hops, the jumparoo, basketball shooting and tether ball. This was a success!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

One challenge we faced is that the P.E. specialist had the gym for kindergarten scheduled classes which would have overlapped with the lunch indoor recess times. She combined 2 of her kindergarten classes into one period which opened the gym availability. This worked out really well for all!
