Our school has implemented indoor recess kits for each grade level and our special education department. It includes large Soft yarn balls, Large ABC dice, Egg and Spoon Kits, and fruit and veggie bean bags. Students can play a sorting relay with the bean bags, work on balance with egg and spoons, and work on motor skills with catching and tossing the yarn balls without fear of breaking items inside the classroom. The students can play and roll and spell game with the letter dice or roll and create a list of words that begin with the letter. It has really helped students with movement during the rainy or cold days rather than having to sit and simply watch a video or do numerous dance videos.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We can continue to use the indoor recess kits for following years on rainy or cold days.

How did you accomplish your goals?

I was able to find a grant to help purchase the items for our indoor recess kits. I was able to work with the Physical Education teachers in order to get the most for our money and their recommendations for items that would work well in the classroom.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Teachers help students create and make games to do in the classroom to use the tools in the indoor recess kits.
