Breakfast For Everyone — First Meal Matters
We offered a breakfast opportunity for junior high students in their classroom Monday, Thursday and Friday of one week to see if we could increase the participation of breakfast for this student population. Prior to that week only 20% of students , approximately 10 out of 52 students went to breakfast in the cafeteria. When we served breakfast in the classroom 40/52 students, approximately 77%, ate breakfast. We discussed the importance of fueling the body to get the school day started and increase their academic performance.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

With the impressive results, we plan to implement Grab n Go breakfast next school year to middle school students.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Getting cafeteria staff on board to prepare breakfast. utiilizing wellness team to help deliver food to classrooms.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We utilized computer lab time to encourage students to log on to website. Teachers encouraged students to participate.
