Terry Heiderscheit, George W Gibbs Elementary School
Students were given a challenge to try 26 healthy foods or ideas to promote eating healthy. They were given a form to complete and return after they tried all the challenges. The returned forms were put in a drawing and those that were chosen earned prizes.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The Fuel Up team worked with the staff to get forms to students and also collect the forms when they were returned. The Fuel Up team sorted the forms and also chose the winners in the prize drawings. The team delivered the prizes to the students that were chosen from the drawings.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We accomplished our goals with teamwork between the Fuel Up to Play 60 team and the staff at school. The team was determined to have all students get the challenge form to help raise their awareness of healthy eating at home.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
Creating an attractive challenge sheet (volunteer parent made a great form) and getting them to all the students in our building was the biggest challenge. A lot of people from the volunteers, the Fuel Up team, teaching staff, students and parents made this Keep Fueling challenge work at Gibbs.
