Kegonsa Walking Club
This year, before the weather froze over, Kegonsa Elementary launched a Walking Club during the fall.  We had our student FUTP 60 leaders help run the club during their recess. Their roles included participating, encouraging others to participate and helping tally laps with our Program Advisers. Once our club wrapped up when snow came, students also tested their math skills by adding up how many miles we walked as a school. It was amazing! We had a record number of participants each recess and reached almost 2000 miles. We look forward to relaunching this club once again this spring when our field is free of snow.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our Program Adivsors and FUTP 60 leaders helped lead and run the Walking Club. They worked together to advertise for the club along with tallying laps as students walked or ran our track. They also worked together to help add up our laps into miles.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to continue this club once the snow melts and our field is free of water. As we move through the school years, we want to either paint or trace a permanent track for our club to follow. We also are shooting to turn this recess club into a before and after school club in the future.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Our students are much more willing to participate in new activities and waiting for the next new activity to be offered. Our leadership team is also much more invested in leading activities and taking on an active role in the process.
