NFL Play 60 Challenge

Punt, Pass, and Kick By: Kalei Gerard, Deanna Stottlemire, Joy Missey and Nalani Hunter Fuel Up to Play 60 is used in schools all around America, and Ridgewood Middle is really fueling up! The kick off event for Fuel Up was the annual Punt, Pass, and Kick competition. It was quite a sight to see. Punt, Pass, and Kick is a competition for both boys and girls separately to test their national skills in football. Both boys and girls compete in the Punt selection, the Pass selection, and the Kick selection. After everyone has competed, their points are added up for each individual’s average. Then, the judges compare both the boys and girls’ averages, picking the top three winners for boys and the top three for girls. These winners will then continue on to the Selectional competition. The winners of the competition for the boys are Myles Richardson, Nick George, and Mason Crew, while for the girls, they are Lena Higgins, Annabel Friedman, and Halley Brother. In first place, the winners are Myles Richardson and Lena Higgins. Punt, Pass, and Kick, according to Myles, “Is fun and a good way to show athletic talent.” Myles, Lena, and the other winners of the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition are on their way to the sectionals at Kirkwood High School in St. Louis, MO! Punt, Pass, and Kick is big part of Fuel Up to Play 60, a website that promotes healthy eating and exercising. According to Lena, Fuel up to Play 60, “Is a good way for kids to know not to be sucked into their phones.” Fuel Up is now in full swing, and the prizes are endless. By signing up for Fuel Up, you are signing up for the opportunity to win fantastic prizes. Some of these prizes even range from free gift cards to the NFL store, to an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas. Fuel Up also is a great way to get a scholarship. So, for all you football fans, Fuel Up is the way to go. In conclusion, the annual Punt, Pass, and Kick contest was quite a competitive competition. The competition was definitely action packed, and kept you guessing, but in the end, Lena Higgins, and Myles Richardson took home first place.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students coming together to learn how to properly punt, pass and kick a football with the guidance of the PE teachers. The PE teachers were gracious enough to run the competition during PE classes and on September 28, 2016 we held the actual competition. Students helped mark and measure the spots where the ball landed. It was great to see how much fun everyone had during this event.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Students made bulletin boards and signs and posted them throughout the building and cafeteria. We announced the competition several times during morning and afternoon announcements. The PE teachers were of the utmost help in accomplishing this goal.
