Kick-Off Food Drive

Alicia Kamer,   Oak Hill Elementary
Community Involvement
Our students, in celebrating our recent FUTP 60 Kick-Off, had a food drive for two community organizations: The Growing Oaks Food Program and the Oak Hill Food Pantry. Each class collected food items, and the two classes with the highest donation totals received a special party. Overall, over 1700 food items were collected from a school with an enrollment of 575 students. The students enjoy giving back to our community, while at the same time learning about health and wellness.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The student wellness team and I planned the event and helped in collection.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We advertised at school and on social media, too.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Our students are much more aware of needs in our community.
