Our school had a very successful Kickoff assembly. The students got together and made props that would help them explain to the rest of the school what exactly Fuel Up to Play 60 stands for. They were able to get the whole school to participate in a "brain break" doing "The Wobble" dance. We were able to talk about how the MyPlate nutritional information will help students have an understanding of making healthy food choices. Finally, we were able to end our assembly by promoting physical activity by having students compete in a relay race against the faculty. We finalized the whole thing by handing out magnets that have the Fuel Up to Play 60 logo on them.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

I was able to get a special class that is called the Fuel Up to Play 60 study hall. Students request to be in the class and work together in teams to accomplish different tasks in the program.

How did you accomplish your goals?

My goal was to have the students come up with the idea of how they wanted to promote the program. They were able to make all the props and work together to come up with the script. Students went above and beyond by working together as a team.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We sparked interest in our program and students are asking daily how they too can get involved. A new study hall group will take place every term for nine weeks. We will be able to get multiple students involved in promoting the program in our school.
