Flag Football has been on the rise at McCollom Elementary School. Last year we had 10-15 participants playing on a regular basis. This year that number has jumped up to almost 100! We have boys and girls playing and love the competition. We are so grateful to have the flags that Fuel Up to Play 60 donated. The kids always want to be the Chiefs and argue about who gets to play on the Chiefs. Then they name themselves as their favorite player. They have been begging me to start a after school program but we just don't have the funds to start one. Maybe one of these days. Thank you to FUEL UP TO PLAY 60 and the Midwest Dairy for all of their help in making this program possible.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have allowed the students to play during their lunch recess and during brain breaks/recess. We would love to start an after school program but need to find the funding for it.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Last year, many girls didn't want to play. This year, the boys have asked girls to participate. It is amazing to see both boys and girls playing Flag Football.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We had to stop playing football last year due to an injury. I had to have a meeting with staff and my principal about the importance of physical activity and Flag Football. We were granted permission to bring it back, so I was so happy!
