Kids Love to Run the Halls
As a part of Catholic School's Week we have a PE focused day. We began with an instructor leading age groups in Pound, an exercise to music with drumsticks. In the afternoon, students met in the gym, and were divided into 4 groups, After a brief warm-up, they moved to various parts of the building where each group was lead by our FUTP 60 team members on a marked route through the school. As students passed their starting point, they received a color rubber band to track their laps. After 40 minutes, we counted rubber bands and 80 students, grades K, 4-8th grade covered 151 miles! They enjoyed fruit smoothies pre-made by parent volunteers. This was our second time doing this activity and first time during the school day. Kids love the chance to run in the hallway. The route is well marked and avoids 2 way traffic on stairs.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We are in the middle of awful winter weather, so we were not sure if this would happen. I did not purchase smoothie supplies until that day to be sure we were in session!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students worked with younger buddies to show them the way on the route. FUTP 60 team members lead each group on the route. Teachers were stationed throughout to make sure everyone was safe and received their lap bands.
