Kingsborough Gets Moving!

At our campus we implemented a Kids School Health Advisory Council and they joined Fuel Up to Play 60. To promote physical fitness, our KSHAC students held a zumba event. Students, faculty, parents, and community members were invited. Members of KSHAC also got students, teachers, and administrators to take the pledge to be physically active and to eat healthier. Healthy eating was also promoted at PTA meetings. Students promoted eating fruits, whole grains, and dairy products. Our campus has also teamed up with the American Heart Association to develop a teaching garden and to promote Hoops for Heart.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals with the help and support of our administrators and teachers. We had to come up with many creative ideas to keep our students involved. We also let our students take control, have input, and take leadership roles to help us reach our goal of promoting physical fitness and healthy eating throughout the campus.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We want to continue having zumba at our campus weekly and getting more teachers and parents to attend these events. We plan on coming up with more ideas of physical fitness activities to host at our campus and by partnering up with the American Heart Association, we hope that we can continue to promote school wellness among the students, faculty, and community members.
